UK Student Visas
The Student Visa (formerly Tier 4) is for non-UK nationals aged 16 or over who wish to study at a licensed UK educational institution. Visa Professionals provides expert assistance with Student Visa applications, extensions, and dependant applications.
Who Needs a Student Visa?
You will need a Student Visa if you are from outside the UK and Ireland and you wish to study a course lasting longer than 6 months, or a course of any length if you are under 18. Short courses under 6 months may be studied under a Standard Visitor Visa instead.
Key Requirements
- A Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from a licensed UK educational institution
- Proof of English language ability (IELTS or equivalent, minimum B2 level for most universities)
- Sufficient funds to cover your course fees and living costs
- Academic qualifications meeting the requirements of your course
- Tuberculosis (TB) test certificate if required based on your country of residence
Working on a Student Visa
Most Student Visa holders are permitted to work part-time during term time (typically up to 20 hours per week) and full-time during official holidays. However, restrictions apply depending on your institution type and course level — your CAS will confirm your work entitlement.
Graduate Visa (Post-Study Work)
After successfully completing your UK degree, you may be eligible for a Graduate Visa, which allows you to stay in the UK for 2 years (3 years for PhD graduates) to work or look for work at any skill level. The Graduate Visa is a step towards longer-term settlement for many students.
